Wise Owl

So  I haven't done any punch art in a while, so when I organised a dinner for a lovely friend to celebrate the completion and graduation of her Masters..... I knew it was the perfect time to start again!

And when you think of graduations, you think of mortar board hats.  Well I do, so it got me thinking of a wise old, scholarly owl!

And isn't it just lucky that Stampin'  Up! has the coolest Owl punch ever!!  I used a few punches though actually.  The owl body and face was made with the Owl Builder punch, the wings from the scallop circle punch and the leaves from the Bird Builder punch.

I added little black pearls for eyes, and hand cut the mortar board and tassel.  The owl's beak is actually the little heart from the Owl Builder punch.  My owl has been layered onto a piece of recycled corrugated cardboard.  Love that rustic look.

I then stamped the Hardwood stamp with Crumb Cake ink onto Crumb Cake CS and sponged the edges.  I thought it added the idea of a tree to the card.  I then used Whisper White CS as the card front and Soft Suede as the card base.  The Congratulations stamp is from the Happy Congratulations stamp set.

I've added a bow tied from Black satin ribbon.  The colouring in this photo is not so great, but I realised later that night that I forgot to add the little scroll to the owl's wing.   So the picture below gives you an idea of what the owl looked like (photo taken at night, so the colours aren't so great).  But the little scroll really adds to the card!

Happy Graduation!

So here's what I used:
Stamps: Happy Congratulations
Papers: Basic Black, Early Espresso, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie, Coastal Cabana, Soft Suede & Pear Pizzazz CS, corrugated cardboard
Inks: Basic Black
Accessories: black pearls, Owl & Bird Builder punches, Itty Bitty punch & black satin ribbon
Big Shot: Oval Framelits
